Harricanaw River 2000

Why the Harricanaw?

After many years  of paddling local areas (mostly Algonquin & Temagami) on family trips, I decided that now was the time to  become a better whitewater paddle so that I could fulfill a lifelong dream of exploring the far north.

After taking a week-long course with MKC, I decided I was ready for a guided trip with Wanapitei – the Harricanaw.  I thought It would be challenging….but not too challenging. Turned out I guessed right.

We paddled 170 km from the last bridge on the Harricanaw to the mouth of the river at Hannah Bay on James Bay.

The Harricana  (Harricanaw)  is a river that flows north in western Quebec and northeastern  Ontario. It is 533 kilometres long,   About 80% of its drainage area is in Quebec  & the remainder in Ontario.    The river flows  a short distance through Ontario finally ending at Hanna Bay on the southeast of James Bay.
